TRAVELLERS CODE OF CONDUCT
We at Tillys Tours want you, our guests to truly enjoy your stay in this wonderful country of The Gambia and will do all we can to assist you in achieving a magnificent experience. In order to get the most out of your stay and to minimise the negative impact of tourism upon this country, we ask you adhere to this, our Code of Conduct for travellers.
• When visiting villages or travelling outside of the main Tourist
areas, dress appropriately. Wear trousers / long skirts and cover your shoulders.
Visitors who are inappropriately dressed will be turned away and not allowed
to participate in such visits.
• We do not permit you to throw sweets from moving vehicles even though
the children may call to you to do so. Children are killed under the wheels
of vehicles by travellers throwing them sweets in this way.
• Refrain from giving children sweets, you are otherwise introducing
tooth decay into a country where currently, it is rare.
• Alcohol is not permitted on our tours and expeditions.
• Do not exchange addresses with local people whom you have just met
– this is encouraging ‘ Bumsterish Behaviours ‘ and you
will no doubt, soon start receiving begging letters.
• When visiting schools, if you have gifts of pencils, books etc then
hand them directly to the children themselves.
• Refrain from taking baths and use showers instead in order to preserve
water supplies.
• Limit cigarette smoking when visiting rural villages and dispose very
carefully otherwise a bush fire can easily be started.
• Follow your guides instructions at all times.
• Be polite to your guide and driver as well as to your fellow travellers.
Fowl and / or abusive language will not be tolerated neither will racisim.
• The guides word is final. If behaviour proves unsuitable to the rest
of your group you will be asked to leave the tour group and return to base
at your own cost.
• Sexual exploitation will not be tolerated.
• We ask our travellers to dispose of all waste and rubbish with awareness
and caution to the local environment.
