RULES AND REGULATIONS WHILST WORKING
It is crucial that our “Work – Adventures “ guests adhere to the established Rules and Regulations of the Charity that they will be working and living with during their stay in The Gambia. Such Rules and Regulations have been established through necessities and include such thing s as not using illicit drugs, not attempting to change the course of the main project nor attempting to set up their own project within the village for example.
• It is imperative that you accept the conditions of the Project which
have been set out by the Trustees and the Gambian NGO Board.
• As a Volunteer working in The Gambia, your role is to work under the
instruction of the NGO Board on areas of the Project, which are ongoing at
the time of your visit, or on the programme of work set by the Management
Teams in the UK, which have been approved by the NGO Board. You will NOT be
responsible for changing any of these areas or for creating new non-related
projects of your own - unless your ideas have been discussed and approved
by the NGO Board Members.
• You will be responsible for keeping a detailed account of your work
throughout your visit as all work under taken on the projects HAS to be measurable.
It also has to be recorded and monitored so that future work programmes can
be designed for other visitors. You will be working on a programme set by
the Charity and receive your work plan from the NGO Board in The Gambia. Your
detailed work account is to be passed onto the Board of Trustees on your return
to UK by yourself.
• You must be very careful when in conversation with the local Villages
in order that information from you is not misinterpreted as a PROMISE of something
to come.
• The Gambia is predominantly a Muslim country so dress accordingly,
no short skirts or shorts and shoulders covered. Bikinis are not permitted
on the local beach which is also used by the villages from time to time. Excess
alcohol will not be tolerated, loud and uncontrollable behaviour will be deemed
as bringing the Charity into disrepute – Anyone behaving in such a way
will be asked to leave the project.
• You will not be allowed to commence a relationship with any of the
workers at the Charity . The workers are not allowed to “Get cuddly
“ with visitors, they will immediately lose their employment if they
are seen doing so. They are not allowed to exchange addresses with you and
you are asked not to do this with any of the local people in an attempt to
control “Bumsterish Behaviour “ which is a massive issue in the
main tourist areas.
• You are asked to refrain from giving out any items of gifts or monies
to any one person, rather, hand them to the Charity workers who will ensure
their fair distribution based on need.
• Tillys Tours asks that you do not give sweets out as to do so is introducing
Tooth Decay into a country where it is relatively rare.
Once at The Charity Base you will Have the opportunity to look through these rules and regulations including explanations of the reasons for them. These are not in place to deter visitors but as a means to protect visitors, staff , villages and the wonderful work and reputation of the Charity that you will be working alongside during your “Work – Adventures Placement. “
